(25/04/26) Term Reflections

Easter break is over, the sun is out and Titanic Beach Readers is officially back in session!

Before I get into what went on today, I want to take a moment to appreciate how amazing last term (January-March) was. Here is a list of the Top 10 Best Moments from last term according to the TBR students and myself.

  1. Opening up the Library + Computer lab

  2. Having our first ever ICT lesson

  3. Going on a field trip to Silverbird in Accra Mall to watch a movie

  4. Valentine’s Day

  5. Learning in the computer lab

  6. Playing an educational spin on OX (tic-tac-toe)

  7. Having a spelling competition at the end of the class based on hard-to-spell words

  8. Reading interesting stories like Kobby’s Trolley and Kofi and the Poisoned River.

  9. Writing our own stories

  10. Starting the 100 book challenge

As you can tell, it was truly a term to remember. Before starting class today, we did a reflection activity where each pair wrote down as many activities from last term as they could remember. I read them out loud to the class: if the memory was correct, we clapped, but if it was wrong (meaning we didn’t do it at all or didn’t do it last term), we stomped!

So, you may be thinking, how would we start this term—especially since it’s the final one for this batch of students? To that, I say the only way is... with a spelling test! (Read my post “The Beauty In Spelling Tests” to learn more about how I feel about those 😉).

After our usual spelling test and review ordeal, we settled down with some sentence formation. As always, it brought out some wonderful expressions of imagination. Then, to end the day, we played a very heated game of Hangman.

We played in three groups, and at first, Group 1 was in the lead by two points. That was until I realized there was a poster on their side of the class showing the digestive system, and our theme was Body Parts! After I chose new words that couldn’t be found on the poster, the game became a lot fairer.

Some words stumped everyone, like "earlobe" and "nostrils," but we soon got into the groove and things became very competitive. To cut them some slack, Group 1 ended up winning anyway and received their prize (jellybeans) at the end of the day.

🌼 This article has come to an end! Thank you for reading and stay tuned for the next one! Don’t forget to scroll for pictures and videos from today. 🌼
