It was that time of year—when music became more cheery, food got more delicious, lights became brighter, and parties and festivals became the only things people would attend (other than church). You guessed it: it was Christmas time! (Specifically, Christmas in Ghana).
And TBR (Titanic Beach Readers) was definitely NOT planning to miss out on the Christmas festivities. On the 14th of December, 2024, TBR held our first-ever Christmas party, and it was a H-I-T! 🎉🎊 Feel free to read more about the uniquely fun activities we did—and the major dilemma that nearly caused the whole party to be postponed!
Spelling Test
To start off our day on a good note, we did our infamous spelling test. Hey—before you groan and call us party poopers—the spelling test was actually a way for parents to see how their children are excelling. Just take a look at how happy this mother is when we were announcing the test scores:

As you can see, our spelling tests have become a deeper activity for the children. Rather than just a practice exercise, they’ve become something the kids use to prove to themselves and others that when they try hard, they succeed—and that hard work and determination always bring reward.
Activities
Afterward, we moved on to the highly anticipated games! Thanks to the help of Ezan, Dad, and our two guest helpers—Kwesi and Sedi—we were able to pull off an array of fun activities that got both children and adults engaged, creating the most memorable moments of the day.
We played games such as: toilet roll pull, pick up the balloon, and much more! I won’t bore you with simply explaining how fun the games were—instead, I encourage you to look at the pictures below to see for yourself!
Christmas Party Drama
Could you ever imagine a Christmas party with no food? 😳 It would be like having all the fun—dancing, games, laughter—but missing one vital piece! Disappointing, right? I mean, food is one of the major things that makes Christmas… Christmas!
Well… you’d probably be shocked to hear that just 12 hours before our heavily anticipated party, we were hit with some devastating news: there would be NO food at the party. And by then, we had already sent word for the children to bring along their family and friends because we’d have plenty to offer!
So… what happened? How all problems happen: misunderstanding. We had accidentally told the catering service that the party would be on Sunday, not Saturday. And unfortunately, Atlantic Food Catering, who had generously agreed to provide food for free, were too busy to reschedule.
We were crushed—but not completely shattered. Thankfully, after a few phone calls and a lot of quick thinking, we managed to get another catering service to cook for a large crowd on extremely short notice. Whew! Thank the Lord for quick minds and kind people!
In the end, you would never have guessed that the food was arranged last minute because everything went on perfectly!
Conclusion
To wrap everything up, we gave out awards, busted some moves, said our final prayer, and left. That joyful day taught all of us that:
Hard work pays off
Communication is key, and…
