Titanic Beach Readers Updates Intro

Updated: Jul 2

Akwaba and welcome to the first-ever blog post of the Titanic Beach Readers Updates! If you have had a scroll on the website (which I would really recommend if you haven't!) you probably have a good idea of what this club is about. However, in this article I want to dive deeper into the question: “What Is Titanic Beach Readers Club?” and let you know what to expect later on 😉.

What is Titanic Beach Readers Club? (From my perspective, Eline G.)

TBR (Titanic Beach Readers) is truly not just a club, it's a storybook in itself! With interesting characters all with their unique backstories and an out-of-the-norm setting sprinkled with plot-twists, character development and of course - education; our journey as a club is truly an edge-of-your-seat experience. And the best part is: it is a story that does not have an ending! Let me lay it out for you:

Ok… Ehm…

Imagine this:

It's the year 2065 (40 years from now) and Ghana is … thriving! Yes, you heard me, thriving! The newly elected president has been doing wonders for Ghana’s politics and his board members are also absolutely amazing. The working class is well-educated and determined to make Ghana a better place.

A speech is being made by the new president, everybody logs into the channel on their phones, computers, TVs and radios: “...And I would like to thank Titanic Beach Readers Club in Sakumono for educating me at a young age and telling me that my dreams are worth chasing and giving me the tools to chase those dreams.” The crowd goes WILDDDDDD. My 53 year old self sits behind my 70 inch tv in a beach house in Hawaii and cracks a smile, “Ahh, my hard work has paid off!”

Ok, a bit much? Maybe. But this is truly a goal TBR is working towards! It may seem like a reach, but whether you have accepted it or not, these children will become our future leaders. So, I believe it's up to us to nurture these young children into becoming hard-working, well-educated and powerful leaders.

And we must admit, with Ghana’s free education system: 5 children having to share one desk, leaky ceilings and deteriorating walls, unmotivated and underpaid teachers struggling to teach poorly mannered children with the scarcity of teaching materials that they have, and a corrupted school board and government who turns a blind eye, and (as Ghanaians would say) chop the tiny funds that they manage to get. The results have been children graduating high school, but still being so under-educated that they could basically be placed in preschool (or lower).

When problems like these arise, yes we can protest but sometimes the best solution is not to fight with your words... but with your actions.

This is Titanic Beach Readers.

We are not just a club, we are a vision for a better future, a future where people actually get well educated when going to school (crazy sentence right?!), a future where Ghana will be impacted by well educated leaders.

So, I hope (in a very long roundabout way) that you know what the goal ofTBR is. In the following posts you will find: funny moments, deep conversations, flashbacks and predictions, ideas, days at TBR and hope; hope for our aims to be met and our visions to come to life!

Thank you so much for reading! Scroll down for images and take a look at more of our posts.

Hope they remember me when they become influential leaders! 😅
